I am jumping and dancing
over, above and around
a simple, small obstacle
a simple jump-rope.
My skirt swirls around me
my body's alive
yet my heart remains frozen
I am taking a dive.
There is a rule to the rope.
There is a line to stay in.
I skip to the the rule of the rope,
I dare not give in.
Then my feet leave the ground
and my arms reach up high.
I reach my arms above me,
I reach up to the sky
throw my arms to the wind
my breath catches a breeze
like a bird’s wings I can feel
let the winds of life breathe
into my cold, freezing heart
tell me where I will land.
My future, my life,
is right here at hand.
Assuming I continue
to jump my thin rope.
Assuming I continue
to believe in some hope.
