Surround Sound (in Quadraphonic Stereo)
High treble, speaker #1 (southeast corner, on a shelf up high where I don’t have to look directly at it): Unnamed Jealous Boyfriend (JB) / A Violation of Trust (several violations, actually.) Not to mention the previous violations by others not-to-be-mentioned. (All of them put on the shelf, up high next to the speaker, where I don’t have to look directly at them.)
Low treble, speaker #2 (northwest corner, on a shelf down low, looking me squarely in the eye every single day): Job/Career/Finances. Crap.
Low bass, speaker #3 (southwest corner [facing New Mexico, with a rhythm that matches the beat of my heart], over there, artfully hidden behind a tall Diffenbachia and an assortment of want-to-be-desert-acclimated succulents in the kitchen where there is no heat, so they may or may not survive the winter): Re-acclimation / Seasonal Transition / I Was Supposed to Be Gone By Now (times two or more)
Vocals, speaker #4 (bellowing out the choruses of my desires and my denials): the couch, the television, pizza, wine, hibernation and denial
The Woofer (a rumbling bass, situated on my nightstand, pounding like a heartbeat, never-ending, where it wakes me – like an alarm – every morning at 4 a.m., a full three hours before my “real life” alarm goes off): my purpose, my soul, my sanity, my nightmares and my dreams.
And my hope. That is the speaker to which I stay tuned.
